What does this mean?
Hi Everyone,
I just read the title of an article which asked the following question:
"Is your date into you?" Does anyone know or want to guess what it means? Go on, give it a try. I will post the answer later. Bye,bye Mark

I thought for a long time, but i still couldn't figure out!
Hi Kevin,
How are you doing? It is really nice to hear from you during this vacation! Well, I will give you the answer to the question.
When someone is "into" someone else, it means that the person really likes the other person very much. Let me give an example.
A guy and a girl are talking. Soon, the guy says to his friends, "Wow, I met this great girl! She is funny, great looking and very interesting! I am really into her!"
Later one of the guy's friends may say, "Hey did you hear about John. He met this girl and he is totally into her. I think he may even be considering marrying her. Lucky him!"
Well, Kevin, I am not sure if you are into anybody at this moment or not. However, you never know but it is possible some pretty girl is into you! Thus, you must keep alert so you don't miss the chance for a big romance in your life!
Bye,bye Kevin. I enjoyed hearing from you and please post again when you get time. Marvin

Thanks for your answers. I understand what you mean.
So far,my summer vacation had nothing special. I just stayed home and helped Dad selling friut.
Besides, I go to practice badminton almost every night because I want to try my best to improve my skills during this vacation. By the way, I use skype to practice English with my classmates. It's very convenient. Do you want to join us?
How about you, Mark? How's your vacation?
Hi Kevin,
It's good to hear from you again. BTW, are you Kevin the freshman, sophomore, or junior? I originally thought junior but now I am not so certain. (IF you are the freshman, than forget my commets about my not being sure if someone is into you as I believe Carol is most definately into you!!).
I also think it is great that you are playing badmitton because this will help to keep you in shape. I also like that sport very much and in America, I belong to a gym but so far I have been too lazy to go and work out. SO, when you see me, I may be a much "bigger" person than when I left:(
I am also happy to hear you and your classmates are speaking to each other on Skype. That is wonderful!! That means your speaking skills won't get rusty and will probably improve over the summer. TERRIFIC! BTW, when I get a computer here, I would love to chat with you and others on Skype. I will let you know when I have the computer.
Well, Kevin, it sounds like you are having a very productive summer and I am sure you father must be very happy to have you around. BTW, what kind of fruit does your father sell? Taiwan has many good fruits.
Ok, Kevin, as always, it is good to read your message on this blog. I hope you continue to post and I look forward to hearing from you agin. Bye,bye for now. Mark
hello Mark, it's too late, but my guess was right (do u believe me?!) well, it's good to see u finally post somethin here ^^ how's your life been these days? i got a lot of, a large amount of, plenty...sleepssssssss...(forget about my grammar!) ...and also, i know who this kevin is! he is...oh...sorry he was a freshman and "is" goin to be a sophomore hehe! cuz this kevin is the only one who plays badminton!!!
~Edward
(the only, the unique one in our dpt.^^)
Hi, Mark, just like Edward said, I am the freshman(Kevin). It seems that there are lots of Kevin in our department. No wonder you are confused.
Well, we sell lots of fruits. Such as tomatoes, lemons, watermelon, muskmelon, and papaya...so on. It depends on the season.
Nice to see your response again. See you, Mark.
Hi Edward,
How are you doing? Well, it is great to get your post and to hear from you during these days! Yes, I absolutely believe that you quessed correctly because I know my assistant is an honest person who would never tell a lie!!
Well, I am glad to hear you are catching up on all that sleep you missed during your freshman days.
Besides sleeping, I also hear you have gotten some chances to chat on Skype with your classmates which is terrific! When I get a computer soon, I hope to have the chance to chat with you as well on Skype.
BTW, thanks for telling me about Kevin but it seems he also has posted a message telling me who he is. Now I know.
Also, just like Kevin, you will soon also be a sophomore, Edward, then before you know it, a junior (another play for you to prepare for--how do you feel about that?) and then a senior, and then, Edward, you will be a worker and a daddy!! Trust me, Edward, time goes by that fast so you better start saving your money because children cost a lot to raise. (That is why I don't have any children. I am too cheap and want to keep my money!!).
Bye,bye Edward. I hope you post again. Now go back to sleep:) Mark
Hi Kevin,
Thanks for letting me know which Kevin you are. (You sure did choose a popular name. I don't think I will ever have such a problem with Lucifer, do you? NCUE can only handle one devil at a time! ho,ho,ho)
Well, it seems you have a great job to be surrounded by such delicious fruit all the time. BTW, I am familiar with all the fruits you mentioned except for muskmelon. I think Taiwan has many interesting and good fruits and I am sure muskmelon is another tasty one.
BTW, do you know that it was only after I moved to Taiwan that I ever tasted a yellow watermelon? Actually, it may sound strange to you but I didn't even know watermelon could be another color except red. However, since moving to Taiwan, I have eaten many yellow watermelons and I like them very much. Still, I think my favorite fruit would have to be guava. Actually, in America, I don't ever think I have even seen it being sold anywhere.
Bye,bye Kevin. Please post again when you have time. Mark
Hi~ Mark:
I'm Ariel
Do you remember that I was looking for a part time job in this summer?
Well , I did find it. But, I quit it after I worked in there twice. I realized that the reality is not so easy as I thought. I worked in a cram school which has both elementary students and junior students, and those students didn't respect me at all. I was a little bit frustrated that time. I think, maybe is that I haven't recieved enough training yet. And I found that my ability is very poor ; i am not ready to teach somebody. Or there is also one problem that maybe I didn't have enough confidence to face this.
However, I feel not bad now....Emm!! I must make a good plan of my left vocation.
Hi Ariel,
How are you doing? It is wonderful to hear from you during this vacation! Actually, I am so surprised and feel so happy to hear from so many of your classmates on this blog. Terrific!
Thanks for letting me know about your job. Even though it didn't last long, I think it is great that you gave it a try.
Also, I completely understand your frustration but don't let it make you feel too bad. It is not always easy to be a teacher and you were brave to go into the classroom and try to teach others. You said that the students didn't respect you but I don't think you should be too worried about that. They probably saw you as a young person and felt that they really didn't need to listen to you. Don't worry as that will change over time.
Also, more training and confidence, as you said, will also help you.
The most important thing, Ariel, is that you gave it a try and over time, I believe teaching will become easier for you even though it may never become easy. (DOes that make sense to you? I hope so).
Well, I am very proud of your effort, Ariel. Now you can decide if you want to work anymore or just relax and enjoy the rest of your vacation. BTW, I know you have been chatting on Skype with your classmates and I think that is great! You are doing the right thing and when I get a computer, I look forward to chatting with you on Skype as well.
Ok, Ariel, thanks for posting on this blog and letting me know how you are doing. Please write again when you get time as it is always nice to hear from you. Bye, bye for now, Ariel. Mark

hi, Mark:
It's me, Modesty, again and again. ^__________^I think I can type my response here instead of writing a letter of hotmail. well, first thx for u gave me a response.
And what time do you think is appropriate to practice speaking??
Besides, i also check again on our
school's website. The movie class still not be put on, but i think it will be soon to see it online as you said.
well, i also tell you something
about my summer vacation. Like Ariel, i tried very hard to find
a part-time job in Taichung, but things were not so easy. i did went to do some interview with the employer, but maybe they think i can't do the job for the long time.
so, i still can't find one.
However, I started to be a tutor
in the end of last semester, and that job is my school sister,Lily( the senior, who is already graduated)passed to me. I felt I am so lucky to get that chance to be a teacher, well i also met some problem. For
instance, sometimes, the student don't like to do what i ask them to do (like listening a tape in Eng) I am still trying to let my students be happy to accept what i want them to do (they are brother and sister.)therefore, it's a challenge for me.
Moreover, I participate a Yoga class with my mother every Saturday. And i think it is a good way to maintain my health.
We do some exercises which can help us maintain our smooth breath and body shape.
I also went to some place with Ariel, and we are plaining a trip.
Hope to see your response again.
BTW, I also like to eat yellow watermelon very much. It also sold in Taiwan!!
bye bye
Modesty

Hi, Mark
it's Ariel again. Thx your advices! Those words gave me some encouragement. I think I feel better now, and I will enjoy my am last vocation. As Modesty said, we are planing a trip. This vocation will still be fun and expectative. I also went to swimming with my Mon today; maybe God made me quit the job and holp me acommpany with my Mon during this vocation.
Did I ever told you that I have a twin sister? she is staying Shing-zhu living with her classmates and also work in a cram school now. However, she doesn't need to be a teacher there but do something like call attendance, check up the lights and videos and write some papers. She said it's very tired and beside work she can't do anything there in the rest time. So, I don't know whether my situation is lucky or not. Lucky, I guess.
Last, I expect to chat with you on skype, hope I can meet you on skype soon!!
Hi Mark:
How have you been? This is Lee-Ann. You are probably lost with this name, please allow me to refresh your memory. You are my instructor during my internship. You did a wonderful job guiding and assisting me through those tough days. You even wrote me a recommendation letter, which is a great encouragement to me on my track of being a teacher. Well, thank you is all I want to say to you. Now, I have been a senior high teacher for almost two years. Gladly, I am still alive. And you? Still busy with your writing class? You know, I always feel it a shame that I didn't posses a chance to take your writing class. Anyway, I happened to know your blog from my school sisters. It's so nice of you to offer this room as a way of studying and learning. So glad to get in touch with you again. Best wishes Lee-Ann
Hi Mark,
This is Vivien!
Well...it's very nice to know how everybody's doing during summmer vacation!
I get lazy on vacation but not on practicing English! But I found out you get lazy on your blog now!hehehe....
I also notice that my three cats get really fat at home when I was not around. They must have stolen my cookies!
About the saying someone is "into" someone, I've learned it while chatting with foreign friends,hehe...BTW, I'm looking forward to meeting some enchanting foreigners...haha, kidding~~:P
Hope you are fine~
Bye bye. Vivien
Hi Modesty,
It's so good to see your post here but I am very sorry for the slow reply.
I hope you are doing well these days.
I think writing here is just as good as sending me an email. Although I still don't have a computer here of my own, I do try to reply to any mail I get. (ALthough sometimes my replies are slow, unfortunately).
One question you asked me which I didn't understand. "And what time do you think is appropriate to practice speaking??" I am sorry, Modesty, but can you tell me whatn you mean? Thanks.
As for the movie class, I still don't know exactly why my class is not listed but I know it will be and you will definately be able to take it. Thanks for telling me it is not listed online. I called the English department from Taiwan but I could not get in touch with the TA. Anyway, I will keep trying to get him and hopefully it will be posted soon.
I am sorry to hear that you have been having trouble finding a job. I know that can really be frustrating but don't give up, Modesty. Everyone has to begin somewhere and even though you may not have much experiece in teaching or doing any job, the important thing is not to feel too bad.
Actually, Modesty, it is quite common for someone to experience what you are going through. YOu look for a job in a certain field but the people don't want to hire you without having experience. However, if nobody hires you, how can you ever get the experience? Still don't let it bother you too much. I will keep you in my thoughts and hopefully you will get a job you want soon.
As for the problems you are having with the brother and sister, that is also a common thing. Please don't let that bother you much either, Modesty. The truth is that doing things like listening to tapes can be boring to people, especially if they don't like the subject. Thus, just do your best and when you are teaching the students, I would like to make a suggestion to you.
Are you playing a tape about a subject the students have no interest in listening to? If yes, that could be the problem. Maybe you can find a tape dealing with a subject they would like. (YOu could ask them about their interests). You might even choose to sometimes play some slow English songs for them or even parts of a TV show or movie. Sometimes it is more enjoyable to listen and watch something at the same time.
ALso, make sure not to play the tape too long at one time. Listening is really hard-work for many people, especially when listening to something in a foreign language.
The important thing, Modesty, is to remember to not feel too bad by your student's reactions. Learning a foreign language, as you know, is really difficult. Thus, just do your best:)
I am also happy to hear you are exercising. That is very important to do. However, I tried yoga before and I found it to be very difficult. (I am an old man, Modesty and my body doesn't like getting in those different positions:(
As for me, I am also working out quite a lot in recent days. I am also dieting. It is not easy but I am trying to lose this terrible weight I gained and my favorite thing to do at the gym is to swim. Actally, just like you,Modesty, I go to the gym often with my mother as she also wants to get in shape and be more healthy.
ONe problem I have had in the past after being on vacation in America is that I came back to Taiwan fat. Well, this is something I am really trying to avoid this time.
I hope you and Ariel have a nice trip together, and you can tell me about it when you have time, and if you have any pictures, please show me. I would like to see them.
As for me, I am getting ready to soon go to California and Las Vegas. Actually, I will leave next week for about 10 days. I hope it is not too hot there but I know it will be.
Ok, that is all for now, Modesty. As always, it is really good to hear from you and I hope all contiues to go well with you this summer. Bye,bye for now. Mark

Hi Ariel,
It is really nice to get another post from you. It is good to hear you and Modesty are having a chance to spend time with each other this summer. As I said to Modesty in another post, I hope you both have a nice time and please show me any pictures you may take. I would like to see them.
Soon, I will also take a trip to California and Las Vegas. I told Modesty that I hope the heat is not too bad in those places. I also hope the vacation you both take is one where the weather is great!
I am surprised to hear you went swimming with your mother. I also have been swimming many times recently with my mother as well. So, are you a good swimmer, Ariel? I like swimming but I don't swim very fast. I am amazed when I see some swimmers who can swim very well and very quickly. I recently watched a swmimming competition and I was really impressed by the talent of the swimmers.
Well, swimming is good exercise and it is also fun, don't you agree?
No, I didn't know you have a twin sister? That is really interesting to learn. Is she an identical twin? (Do you look exactly like her?) Hey,if she is your identical twin, perhaps you can get her to take your place sometimes in classes you want to skip for the week. (However, now that I know you have a twin, Ariel, you can't do that in my classes, no matter how boring they are. I will paying extra close attention to make sure I don't get fooled by you and your sister. Ho,ho,ho!
I have also heard that sometimes twins have a strange ability to know what the other twin is thinking sometimes or that they may have many of the same interests. Is that true for you and your sister? I also have 2 uncles who are twins but they don't look alike at all. One is big and very strong and the other is average height and weight.
Well, that is all for now. I hope you continue to have a nice summer and I look forward to hearing from you, Modesty and others.
As for Skype, I am afraid that I may not be able to speak on it much this summer as I still don't have a computer here.
However, during this month, I may be with a friend who has a computer and perhaps we can chat at that time. I will post the exact time at a later date.
Bye,bye Ariel. Mark
Hello Lee-Ann,
Well, it is very nice to see you post here! I sure do still remember you and I am very happy to hear that you doing well.
Of course, I had no doubt at all that you would be an excellent teacher and I really enjoyed meeting you on campus each month.
So, has teaching been all you hoped it would be or has it been very tough?
You didn't mention it but what city are you teaching in?
Well, thank you for the kind comments, Lee-Ann:)
I am sorry for the slow reply but I am currently in America and I have to use public computers here. So, Lee-Ann, in addition to teaching, how is your coming along? YOu haven't gotten married yet, have you? (Are their any little Lee-Ann's around? Keep me up to date. I am curious how you are doing in your life).
Well, how is your English coming along? Do you have any chances to pratice speaking? Many people tell me that they start to lose some ability when they started to teach English because they are not required to use English very much in their ENglish classes. So strange, don't you agree?
As for me, I am doing well, and I am soo happy to see you discovered this blog. Although I have not been posting as much as I like during this vacation, during the regular school year I try to post more. Thus, I hope to get more posts from you in the future.
Ok, take care, Lee-Ann and let me know how you are. It is really nice to hear from you. Bye,bye for now. Mark
Hi Vivien,
Well, it is very nice to read your post! I am sorry for the slow reply.
I agree that is nice to read how people are doing this summer.
I am happy to hear that you are still practicing English during the break. So, please tell me, Vivian, what have you been doing? I am very interested to know.
It is also interesting to hear that you also have some fat cats. My mother has a cat that is very, very fat and now I am forcing it to go on a diet. It is not happy but that cat is simply TOO FAT and she never exercises! She just wakes up and eats and goes back to bed!!!
BTW, you better watch those cookies, Vivian. Don't eat too many. After all, you don't want to have to buy all new clothes for next semester because you ate too many cookies! (This semester all students at NCUE have to pass a weight test and if they have gained more than 5lbs during summer, they have to go to exercise classes with the chairman at 6a-7m everday until the weight is gone!! So be careful, Vivian!
BTW, Vivian, I am still looking for a nice American boy for you but the search is not easy. I am wondering if you will be willing to change some of your requirements. After all, it is not really easy for me to find a 6'2, blond boy with green/grey eyes. HOwever, I did meet a very nice guy who is 6'2 but he had red hair and red eyes. ( I think he was tired) So, if you want, I can send him your email or do you still want me to continue my search for your ideal man? Let me know! Ho,ho,ho!
Well, it is very nice to hear from you during this vacation, Vivian. You didn't say exactly what you have been doing but please let me know. Bye,bye for now,. Mark

hi Mark:
very happy to see your response again! As for the question i asked
"And what time do you think is appropriate to practice speaking??"
i mean that when we can chat with you on the skype. well, i see what
you responed to Ariel, and i know you don't have a computer your own.
So, that's Ok,and i will look forward to chat with you again in NCUE.
well, i didn't feel bad actually.
because i still use my summer time to do a lot of things. i went to
many places. Let me tell you, i went to Xi-Zhu, Yi-lan(Domingo's hometown),
Feng-yuan( Ariel's hometown), and i will go to Kaosiung on Aug.12th and 13th.
But, we still need to do the assignments Amy gave us.
Anyway i love this summer very much.
Besides, about the brother and sister i teach. i m very happy to tell you
that they behaviored very well these few weeks, and i think i won their trust
already. I m progressing in my teaching i think.^^
Let me tell you our trip for Yi-lan. Ariel, Vivien, Snow, Susan, and I, we
fivegirls went to Domingo's home for three days!!!We were plaining to attent
the very famous Festival mainly for children in Yi-lan.
There are many interesting facilities on water, and many performances from abroad.
Taiwan invite many countries to Yi-lan every summer from ten years ago. Well, unfortunetely, we encounter a Typhoon!!!!
let's really disappointed us, however, we still went to Yi-lan anyway! Domingo's father treated us very well in those three days.
Domingo and we rode scooters in the first day, and we went to many beauitiful places. At night, we went to beach, but the wind was already loud cuz the typhoon was coming then. The second day, we went to a traditional art center, there is really really beactiful.
The buildings were like taiwan's streets in maybe 1950's. anyway, we all got a lot of fun. of course i can show you the pics. Just link to those website:

hi mark,
this is edward, how's your vacation in the u.s? well, i got somethin to tell you that is im afraid i can't take your movie class(though i really want to ><) i got another course about marketing to take in another campus of NUCE for the coming semester and it's at the same time against your movie class...it's a reallyyyyyyyyy pity...i wish i can take your movie class in the future if you allow me to!!!
~your assistant
Hi Edward,
It is nice to hear from you! Well, currently I am in San Diego California and I just got here from Las Vegas. I am having a very nice vacation so far. Las Vegas, as it always is, was a lot of fun. Soon I will go to Mexico, which I am looking forward to doing very much.
I hope you are also doing well. As for your not being able to take the movie class, I am very sorry to hear that but I can understand your reason. Of course, in the future you are more than welcome to take the class and I look forward to having you in the class. Still, this semester I will probably show movies from time to time on Friday or Saturday night so you can come at that time.
Ok, Edward, I am really glad to hear from you. I hope you write agein when you have time and tell me how you are doing. Bye,bye for now, Edward. Mark
Hi, Mark
I use skype to chat with native speakers, and also there are two ABCs on my list. Using skype is a good way to practice English! What’s more, when I go out with friends, I never forget to use English! We also use English in KTV(that is…sing English songs)!
This summer I listen to many rock songs, and I learn some too, hehehe~
Well, Mark, I start to worry about my weight because suddenly I gain 2 kg! But it’s a mercy that recently I got sick…I become thin again! I won’t have to be with the chairman, hahaha~~
As for the searching of nice American boys, I think I can change some requirements! How about 6’0 blond guys?! I think the red color and red eyes guy must be very tired… He’d better take a rest. When he gets well, I can consider meeting him!
Thanks for the reply and the searching, Mark. I appreciate that :D
Hope you have a nice vacation in California(or wherever you go)!
Vivien
Hi Vivien,
Well, it is great to hear from you again! It sure sounds like you are doing a lot of English speaking these days. That is terrific!! You sure are a motivated person when it comes to being a better English speaker.
As for me, I am enjoying my vacation but I am also looking forward to coming back to Taiwan.
About your weight gain, no need to worry, Vivien. You are still quite slim and this semester I am sure the chairman will help you work off the weight. There is always work to do in the department, such as painting each classroom, so the weight will certainly leave you, Vivien. As a matter of fact, I will ask the chairman to make you the head painter(If he forgets, I will remind him, Vivien, so don't worry at all!! Ho,ho,ho! That is soooo cruel of me!!)
Also, since I am in California, I am sure I can find a boy who will meet your requirements:)
Ok, Vivien, keep up the good work on speaking English. And please write again as it always good to hear how you are doing.
Bye bye for now, Vivien. Mark
